Autogestión

 

At the heart of our work is “autogestión,” a deeply important word that is most difficult to translate into English.  It literally means “self-gestation.” Perhaps self-perpetuating; naturally replicating or reproducing; thoroughly self- sustaining.  A goal of our work accompanying communities is to motivate the people to stir their own hopes and dreams, focus their vision, their planning and collaborating, their ideas and initiatives. When their internal process “self-gestates”, it means being conceived by and born in the community itself instead of by the experts outside the community.
